Catastrophic Injury and Wrongful Death Representation

In April 2018, more than 200 million eggs were recalled by Rose Acre Farms due to a Salmonella Braenderup outbreak at the company’s North Carolina facility. Rhine Law Firm, P.C. is investigating a case that may be related to this outbreak, and urges all North Carolina residents to be extremely careful when preparing and consuming eggs.

The eggs under recall were distributed to multiple grocery stores and restaurants, including Food Lion and Waffle House, and were sold under various brand names, such as Great Value, Country Daybreak, and Crystal Farms. For a complete list of stores and brands selling the recalled eggs, please visit the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website.

The outbreak is confined to eggs stemming from Rose Acre Farm’s North Carolina plant that were specifically packed between January 11, 2018 and April 12, 2018. To find out how to determine if eggs you’ve purchased are under recall, please check out our recent blog article that explains how to read the codes on your egg carton.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause severe illness and death, and can be contracted from contaminated food of all types, including beef, poultry, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and processed foods. An average of 1.2 million people suffer from Salmonella-borne sickness each year in the U.S., and approximately 450 die as a result. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning usually occur 12 to 72 hours after ingesting contaminated food, and include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Anyone experiencing such symptoms is urged to see a doctor immediately.

Food manufacturers and processing plants have a duty to ensure the products they supply to the public are safe and free of contamination. When they fail to do this, they need to be held accountable.
