Pender County is within the Wilmington, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area and has an approximate population of 52,000. The county has a great deal of water resources including creeks, ponds, and lakes. The county is approximately 30 miles outside of the historic city of Wilmington and has easy access to the International Airport in New Hanover County. The county is convenient to excellent educational establishments, including the Cape Fear Community College, Miller-Motte College, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

In 1999, the North Carolina legislature decided to add provisions that pertain to the state’s robust vacation industry.
